SUSTAINABILTY

At Toyota we actively position environmental preservation as one of our top priority management issues, and continuously set environmental goals and create plans to achieve them. We are committed to meeting and surpassing global climate objectives, creating successful workplaces promoting wellbeing, and driving improved governance.

Establishing a Carbon Neutral Society

Toyota’s founding principle, the reason we exist, is to contribute to society.

Toyota Material Handling's parent company, Toyota Industries Corporation (TICO), has set a goal of establishing a carbon-neutral society on a global basis in their Environmental Vision 2050. To establish a carbon-neutral society, TICO has identified the prevention of global warming as its highest priority issue. TICO seeks to reduce emissions during product use and energy usage in all sites' business activities and minimize CO2 emissions throughout the entire value chain.

All TICO material handling factories are certified ISO 9001 and 14001. ISO Standards are international standards that ensure a systematic approach to quality, safety, environmental management and energy efficiency.

Takahama (Japan) Plant Environmental Initiatives

Toyota's commitment to the environment is evident in the eco-friendly management systems that are used in our production facilities at our Takahama Plant in Japan (ex. Mjölby (Sweden) Plant Environmental Initiatives

Since August 2019, Toyota Material Handling's European factory in Mjölby Sweden has been recognised as its first carbon-free factory, emitting zero CO2, and using only green electricity from sources such as solar power sourced from factory rooftop panels, district heating and liquid biogas. As both a manufacturer and a solutions provider, Toyota Material Handling Europe looks for opportunities, both in their own processes and in support of their customers’ operational activities, to reduce their operational climate footprint. They do that by leveraging our technology-based portfolio and making conscious design and production choices: monitoring data, avoiding waste, prioritising effective energy and emissions management, and focusing on low-carbon solutions. They also align their environmental disclosures with the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS): E1 Climate change, E2 Pollution, E3 Water and marine resources, E4 Biodiversity, E5 Resource use and circularity.

Products For A Better Environment

Toyota's electric powered counterbalance forklifts combine the safety, durability, and reliability of internal combustion trucks with the zero operating emissions, ergonomics, and speed of electric forklifts. 3-way Catalytic Converter System and Catalytic Muffler can be equipped to reduce harmful emissions from petrol/LPG and diesel engines, respectively. Plus, every Toyota forklift is manufactured is up to 99% recyclable.

One of Toyota's main decarbonisation targets is to reduce the ‘use-phase’ emissions of our forklift. We are also exploring the use of biofuels to help reduce the carbon footprint of internal combustion powered forklifts. As part of our net zero efforts, we will be ramping up our use of recycled steel, produced with fossil-free electricity and biogas, which will reduce the carbon footprint of raw materials used in our forklifts. We want low-carbon steel to become a standard for our products, starting with the most popular models of our hand pallet jack range.
