A progressive warehouse racking supplier has
commissioned an all-Toyota fleet of forklift trucks at
its new premises in Dandenong South.
Dexion Citiport has been a franchisee for Dexion racking
for more than 20 years and, along with Dexion Dandenong,
sells warehouse fit-out equipment throughout Victoria and
nationally.
In June 2013 it took the opportunity to commission a new
forklift truck fleet when it moved its Dandenong distribution
centre to new premises in Abbotts Road, Dandenong South.
Company director Andrew Cater said the five newToyota
2.5-tonne payload internal combustion forklifts replaced a
mixed fleet of rental and second-hand forklifts.
“It was the ideal time for a totally new fleet,” he said.
“All five newToyota 8-FG25 forklifts have six-metre masts, and
one is configured as a container truck.”
Mr Cater said Dexion Citiport chose forklift supplier Toyota
Material Handling Australia (TMHA) on the basis of its broad
product range and quality.
“TMHA offers a wide range of forklifts and the quality has
been proven over time.”
“We take an added interest in forklifts because there is such
an obvious link to our business of supplying warehouse
racking.”
“In addition, we have enjoyed a good relationship with
TMHA salesperson Allen Chen, and that continues. Our
new warehouse is on the same road as TMHA’s Melbourne
branch.”
TMHA Melbourne major account manager Andrew Hopkins
said the Toyota 8-Series forklift range meant there was a
counter-balance internal combustion or battery-electric
forklift for virtually every application.
“Toyota’s 8-Series forklifts offer leading design and safety
features, such as Automatic Fork Levelling Control to level
forks during loading and Active Control Rear Stabiliser, which
locks the rear axle to help reduce the potential of lateral tip-
overs,” he said.

A rapidly expanding regional freight company has
switched toToyota rental forklifts so it can continue to
concentrate on building the business.
In just four years Midstate Freight in Bathurst, New South
Wales, has grown from one depot and one truck to four
depots, 40 staff and 36 vehicles.
In late August the company commissioned an additional
two 2.5-tonne payload Toyota 8FG25 forklifts from the Toyota
Material Handling Australia (TMHA) branch in Orange.
Managing director Mick Winwood-Smith said leasing Toyota
forklifts provided benefits in service and workplace health and
safety compliance, allowing him to focus on his core business.
“We used to buy our forklifts, but (TMHA Orange branch
manager) Richard Bopping showed me the benefits of
leasing,” he said.
Mr Winwood-Smith said Midstate Freight’s relationship with
TMHA Orange began with a service contract.
“Richard has an outstanding group of mobile service
technicians covering the mid-west region,” he said.
“We’ve created a good business relationship and hope to
develop that further.
“From my experience, Toyota forklifts are reliable and easy to
operate; they’re good, versatile machines.”
Midstate had its beginnings with Mr Winwood-Smith running
one truck between Bathurst and Mudgee.
“Four years on, we have four depots now in Bathurst, Dubbo,
Mudgee and Orange, and there is always a TMHA service
technician nearby,” he said.
Mr Bopping said the Toyota 32-8FG25 is one of the most
popular models in the Toyota internal-combustion forklift
range, with important features such as the Toyota System of
Active Stability (SAS).
“Selected Toyota 8-Series forklifts offer leading design and
safety features, such as Automatic Fork Levelling Control to
level forks during loading and Active Control Rear Stabiliser,
which locks the rear axle to help reduce the potential for
lateral tip-overs,” he said.

Toyota’s BT ‘Optio’ L-Series order-picking
forklift has won a product design award at the
prestigious international Forum (iF) Design.
The German-based iF Awards recognise excellence in
quality of design, choice of materials, safety, durability,
ergonomics and low environmental impact.
Judges said the Optio order-picker had scored highly in
all those areas, earning it the top honour of a gold trophy.
Toyota Material Handling Australia product manager
Dean Watson said the award backed up the strong
early reception for the Optio since its introduction to the
Australian market in February.
“That the BT Optio L-Series has been honoured in this
way is excellent news for our customers,” Mr Watson
said.
“The award-winning BT Optio will greatly enhance the
operations of any workplace, with features that help get
the job done more efficiently.
“For example, the E-man concept’s electrical servo
steering makes guiding the forklift easier and safer at low
speeds, and it can be positioned according to the driving
conditions, which makes it the ideal all-rounder for a
variety of tasks.
“Additionally, the forklift’s low step-in height offers safer
entry and exit, and BT’s Optimised Truck Performance
program greatly improves its stability around corners,” Mr
Watson added.
BT Optio L-Series trucks are available in 1000 to 2700kg
capacities and the P-models (OSE250P, OSE120P,
OSE180XP) feature Sensi-lift, which raises the entire
platform by 980mm for safe elevated picking work.

Toyota Material Handling Australia (TMHA) has
established a direct presence inTasmania, increasing
its customer support capability and confirming its
commitment to local customers.
The newTMHATasmania branch in Launceston offers the full
Toyota Material Handling range of Toyota, BT Lift Truck and
Raymond forklift products, as well as Toyota’s comprehensive
Huski skid-steer loader range.
The new branch is located at Connector Park, Kings
Meadows.
Toyota forklifts were previously sold and serviced in Tasmania
by an independent dealer.
The new branch sales manager, Rob Cornwell, said Tasmania
now has a dedicated Toyota Material Handling team to
provide pallet handling solutions, with direct manufacturer
support.
“We’re already operational with sales and service, including
service vans based in Launceston, Hobart and Devonport,
plus an area sales manager Rod Jones, who is also Hobart
based, enhancing the support of our new Launceston
branch,” he said.
TMHA’s general manager, branch operations, Cameron
Paxton, said establishing a direct TMHA presence in Tasmania
would have many benefits for customers.
“We can now offer dedicated field support as well as a fully
equipped service facility capable of handling all jobs,” he
said.
“Tasmanian forklift and skid-steer loader customers will now
have access to factory-backed technicians trained to the
highest skill levels in the industry, as well as Toyota’s national
network of factory-owned branches and resources.
“The move to factory-owned branches is consistent with our
strategy to deal directly with customers,” he said.
“We will now be able to offer direct service and better access
to our national stock of equipment, parts and short-term
rental units.
“Our customers will be able to engage directly with
representatives from the factory, creating a better value
proposition,” Mr Paxton said.
TMHA estimates a total of at least 3000 Toyota forklifts are in
operation in Tasmania.
